Despite G. Staniulis’ show, “7bet-Lietkabelis” defended the home fortress

In the regular season of Betsafe-LKL, the Mažeikiai team has a match against Nevēžiu-Optibet from Kėdainiai, while the Panevėžys team will meet the same Kėdainiai team and Šiauliai.

The neighboring “Neptūnas” (14-15) will still fight with “Šiauliai”. Since Klaipėda’s team has the upper hand, if the latter win and Panevėžys lose twice, “Neptūnas” would rise to fifth place.

Meanwhile, “M Basket-Delamode” is not yet sure about the seventh position, for which Jonava’s “CBet” (11-18) is also fighting. The latter will also meet Utena’s Uniclub Casino – Juventus. The superiority belongs to the Jonavis.

Gediminas Orelikas confidently started the match and thus allowed “7bet-Lietkabelis” to lead 19:10. Kay Bruhnke and Chauncey Collins reduced the difference (15:19), but Daividas Sirvydis and Vytenius Lipkevičius somewhat stabilized the position of Panevėžys – 26:19. The difference became double digits (31:21) and that’s how the first quarter ended.

Giedrius Staniulis improved the situation of “M Basket-Delamode”, and after a three-pointer by Lauryns Andrijauskas, the guests’ deficit was minimal – 36:37. G.Staniulis eventually put M Basket-Delamode ahead (43:42) and the team from Mazeiki carried the minimal advantage into the long break – 46:45.

Thanks to D.Sirvydis, the hosts regained the advantage (52:48), and after G.Oreliks increased it, he forced Nikolas Vasilevas to ask for a break – 57:50. Important points were scored by K. Bruhnke, G. Staniulis and Einaras Tubutis, so “M Basket-Delamode” stayed close to the opponents – 62:63. G.Staniulis returned the tie to the match (64:64), so everything was decided in the last quarter.

With free throws, “7bet-Lietkabelis” regained the lead (75:68) and despite G.Staniulis’s show, the players from Mazeiki did not come close to threatening for a while. E.Tubutis and M.Paliukėnas kept hope alive (77:82), but N.Vasilevs soon received a technical foul. After fouls by the home team, the difference decreased to 2 points (82:84), but V.Lipkevičius also made important free throws – 86:82. With 14 seconds left, K. Bruhnke made a mistake and the home team did not let go of the victory.

G.Staniulis played the most effective match of his career in “Betsafe-LKL” and scored 28 points, rebounded 16 balls and collected 45 utility points in 34 minutes.
