When I was gathering recommendations on where I should go, many people said to go to Nungwi because it is a paradise made for tourists. Here you will not feel the poverty, danger, dirt and everything else of Africa.
Why do people from all over the world praise and love Nungwi Beach so much? The first reason is the white, fluffy, soft, very beautiful sand that covers the entire coast of Nungwi. Another thing is the color of the water. The Indian Ocean is just perfect in this place. I used to think that this beauty could only be found in the Maldives – nothing like it. Here is a serious competitor for the Maldives.
This is the main reason why Nungwi is the most loved and best rated tourist town in Zanzibar. Here, everywhere you turn, there is such an absolutely perfect coastline. People bathe and go boating. The entire coast is the same perfect color – you wouldn’t think of any minus.
Another advantage is that this side of the island has very low tides. This means that you don’t have to walk 3 km to the water – it’s always right there. Because of this, people like to rest on this beautiful shore.
Not only the nature here is exceptional – since thousands of tourists from all over the world gather on the beach every day, the locals try to make the most of it in every possible way. I decided to walk a few kilometers along the coast and show you how it all happens. For example, every 10 or 20 minutes there are shows: singing, dancing. You don’t have to go anywhere – the artists themselves come to you. You just watch and keep pulling money out of your wallet because every artist asks for a donation.
After walking five meters, the trade starts – they offer t-shirts, coconuts, exotic fruits, slippers, sunglasses, spa treatments, hairstyles, paintings.
However, one thing that Westerners are used to is not here – a lifeguard station. No one watches or controls those who bathe. All safety is left to the people themselves – you have to take care of yourself. But the advantage is that there are no big waves or currents that would carry them into the ocean. When I asked the staff if it was safe to swim, they all said of course.
And now a little about the hot, very sharp African sun. It is better not to joke with her – and I am seriously warning you here. One minus, which I did not expect and was not prepared for – absolute unprofessionalism – we went to the beach without backpacks or drinks to film, because I saw that there are various establishments on the coast.
I went to one hotel, then to another, I see bars, I ask for a drink, and they tell me no, people from the street are not allowed, you have to be a resident of the hotel. There is a very large perimeter of the beach where there is no public bar – no place to get a drink. Street vendors sell everything but water.
