Zelenskiy was added to the Russian Interior Ministry’s wanted list, an online database of wanted suspected criminals.

It states that the head of Ukraine is wanted “under one of the articles of the criminal code”, but does not give further details.

Russian officials did not immediately comment on why Zelensky was added to the list.

V. Zelenskiy has been in trouble for Moscow since February 2022, when he launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Last year, the Ukrainian president said he knew of at least five or six assassination attempts that had been thwarted.

The day after sending troops into Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the nation, calling on the Ukrainian military to oust Mr. Zelensky.

Tens of thousands of people are included in Russia’s wanted list, including foreign politicians and public figures.

In February, Moscow said Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas was wanted “for hostile actions against historical memory and our country” after the Baltic country began tearing down monuments to Soviet soldiers.

Last year, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin on charges of illegally deporting Ukrainian children.
