“On Saturday morning, around 10:30 a.m., I got into a car accident in Panevėžys, during which a cyclist was injured,” B. Matelis announced on his Facebook account on Sunday.

According to B. Matelis, the accident occurred when he was crossing a small intersection with a bicycle and pedestrian path.

“The visibility in that area is bad because there is a fence. When I almost crossed the intersection, a cyclist cut into the middle of the car from the right,” said the member of the Seimas.

According to B. Matelis, the cyclist scratched and bruised his arm and waist, the police and medical help were called. The doctors did not find any major injuries to the man, and the police suggested not to write a report, but to register the damage with the insurance company.

“Both sides agreed. (…) I agreed that I was the culprit of the car accident, I apologized and we agreed to meet on Sunday and draw a diagram of the incident together. But on Sunday, the young man said he felt worse after a while and sought medical attention. They reported to the police, and the latter, according to the cyclist, promised to start an investigation,” said B. Matelis.

“My fault in the incident is because the obstacle was on my right side and I had to be more careful. I didn’t think about whether the cyclist should have been more careful when entering the intersection from the bike lane, because in any case the obstacle was on my right side,” he added.

The cyclist told the medics that he had not lost consciousness.
