All countries have their nuances, you will say, and that is certainly acceptable, but when you are preparing to go to Mexico, you need to know what awaits you.

Planning the trip itself, if you have experience in organizing them and you are not just going to lie on the beaches, is not difficult, or rather, the same as when it comes to any other country, but the Mexicans, when you arrive, are not so easily disposed to release those brought to this country to release your money

“I need your money,” they say in English, and sometimes in Spanish, when you refuse to buy something directly as they pass by.

Although at first such “openness” seems unusual, later, tired of constant offers to buy one or another thing, just to be calmer, you already shoot yourself: “No tengo dinero (lit. I have no money).”

Indeed, malfunctions or frauds can only begin on arrival. If you are planning to rent a car, you should look for a really reliable company and read all the comments about it on the Internet.

Car rental companies in this country are rated extremely poorly on the Internet, mostly with one star, and for good reason. In the comments, those who arrived explain that although they had paid for the service in advance, upon arrival it was explained that they must pay the same amount additionally, and that if they do not pay, the money will not be returned, so they will be left without a car and without a “deposit”.

In this case, knowing the possible tricks, we managed to find a reliable company with which there were no problems – Yes Car Rental Cancun.

Another potential scam is also related to transportation, especially if you plan to use the Uber app and travel from place to place with drivers.

Although the app will show you the way for just 10 minutes, and the amount to be paid will be 5 EUR, when the driver arrives, he can say that he will not take you for that price and demand to pay as much as he can think of at the time. Whether to go when the price rises is your decision.

Although in Lithuania, I will allow myself to come to this conclusion, it is possible that many are already used to calculating the return received in cash in the store cent by cent – in Mexico it is necessary to do so.

Even when buying just one item, locals, especially in tourist areas, like to cheat and return less than the full amount.

After we bought a soft drink for 20 pesos ourselves and tipped 50, we got a return of just 20 pesos. Looking up at the seller again, he also handed over the 10 pesos in his hand that belonged to us. Although the amount is small, and in euros, only 55 euro cents, such theft by the locals did not turn out to be pleasant.

A similar situation, as far as I had to read and be interested, can also be encountered in cafes and restaurants.

Often, waiters add another drink or meal to the bill that you didn’t buy. Although it seems that this is impossible, when you ask for the bill to settle, they do not bring it to you, but they come with a specific requested amount to be paid, so if you did not calculate what you ordered yourself, you may be deceived.

When the check is brought, another way is to always check to see if the waiter has already included the tip in the final amount. I heard that even after including 15% they claim that tip is not included, so they ask for another 15%, which can add up to a hefty sum on the final bill.

Another tip for those going is to always check the specific prices everywhere.

Often, after “catching” a tourist in this way, a completely illogical amount may be asked for one or another alcoholic drink. Let’s say you can be asked for 55 EUR for a “shot” or, in other words, a one-sip drink.

It is probably impossible to list all the possible ways of fraud in this country. Not to mention the uniformed persons standing on the roadside who whistle and stop your car as if they are officers and demand something from you, and we have heard stories with real law enforcement officials who like to take money from tourists and are often corrupt.

Even though you will be on vacation, always be vigilant or you may suffer financially.
