51 women – 44 mothers and 7 guardians – were awarded medals of the Order “For Merit to Lithuania” for their responsibility and inspiring example, the Presidency announced.

“Only the boundless warmth of a mother, enveloping children with tenderness and care, allows you to experience the world as the safest and most hospitable place, and to see yourself in it as exceptional, irreplaceable, necessary and, most importantly, loved,” said G. Nausėda in the report.

Violeta Šatkauskienė from Plungė and Danguolė Mickevičienė from Sugintė village in Šilutė district had and raised the most children among the awardees – 12 each.

Marytė Sudeikienė from the village of Minija in the Šilutė district and Genovaitė Venckaitienė from the village of Papušynės in the Tauragė district, who each raised ten children, were awarded “For services to Lithuania”.

According to the Presidency, the oldest mother is 95-year-old Bronislava Mažikienė from Jūkainai village in Raseiniai district. She raised not only eight biological children, but also three children of her spouse.

Mother’s Day is celebrated in Lithuania on Sunday.
