This is the highest ever rating received by an interior designed by Lithuanians in this competition.

The A’ Design Award & Competition held in Italy is considered one of the largest and most influential competitions of its kind. It evaluates entries in 104 categories submitted by professionals from over 100 countries. Submitted works are evaluated by a panel of experts, made up of influential media, design professionals, academics, and entrepreneurs.

The LSVO hall, which opened its doors to visitors this spring, is the only concert hall in Lithuania specially adapted for symphonic music. Its interior has already been evaluated in the “Golden Palette” awards held in Lithuania. Here it is recognized as the best of 2023. public interior.

According to M. Mateika, one of the authors of the interior, she was inspired by the motifs of Lithuanian ethnic patterns and the old runic alphabet. By integrating these motifs into the modern interior of the LVSO hall, the aim was to create a mystical atmosphere.

However, the main challenge in creating an interior that was recognized in international awards was the acoustics. “The most important task was to ensure acoustic quality in accordance with the highest international standards, so we implemented the entire creative process following the philosophy of a Lego constructor. In consultation with acousticians from the Akustika plus team, several typical elements were prepared: rhombuses, triangles, smooth and ribbed planes. Then the interior was started to be constructed from them, which ensured that by experimenting and changing the available individual details, an acoustically and aesthetically balanced result would be obtained,” says architect M. Mateika.

The interior of the LVSO hall was designed by M. Mateika together with Indre Ankudavičiene, the acoustics project was prepared by acousticians Viktoras Mekas, Gintarė Privedienė from the Lithuanian company “Akustika Plius”, a team of acoustics consultants from Germany, led by prof. skilled Dr. by Wolfgang Ahnert.
