As Delfi previously wrote, the EYE (European Youth Event) aims to give young people the opportunity to become active citizens and learn more about the initiatives and activities of the European Parliament and the entire EU. It is also a great opportunity for young people to find friends and like-minded people from different corners of Europe.

A program responding to youth issues

The “EYE Vilnius” program includes discussions on the most important areas of EU activity – security challenges, issues of sustainability, the fight against climate change and greenness, youth involvement in political and social life and many others. Politicians, experts, entrepreneurs, representatives of non-governmental organizations will participate in the discussions, and young people will have the opportunity to share their visions and proposals with them. They will also be able to participate in various workshops, trainings and discover more inspiring activities at the EYE Vilnius opportunity fair. According to the organizers, the main motto of “EYE Vilnius” is “Visions have no borders”. It aims to draw attention to the opportunities available to young people and the freedom to use them provided by the EU.

“Since youth events of this importance are not often held in Lithuania, we aim to include as many non-governmental organizations, institutions, and private sector representatives as possible in this initiative. We are happy with the support of the Vilnius Municipality and the European Parliament Office in Lithuania. At the event, we will create a space for free discussion, getting to know like-minded people and deciding what kind of future Europe young people in Lithuania want to see”, says Vidmantė Krušinskaitė, communications manager of EYE Vilnius, in a press release.

Vilnius is one of the four cities that attract young people in Europe

The central European youth event “EYE” is held every two years at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, and in recent years, in order to involve more European youth, “EYE” has also been held in other European cities. In 2022, for the first time, the regional “EYE” was held in Santander, Spain and Varaždin, Croatia, and this year, in addition to Vilnius, this event will be held in Germany, Italy and Slovenia. According to the European Parliament’s youth information department, one of the venues for this year’s “EYE” event – Vilnius – was chosen due to the concept, program, sustainability and inclusion proposed by the Lithuanian Council of Youth Organizations (LiJOT) and the Vilnius Union of Youth Organizations “Apskritas Stalas” (VJOSAS). , accessibility and issues of reducing the event’s impact on the environment.

“We are very happy that the Lithuanian Council of Youth Organizations (LiJOT) submitted an application and received the right to organize “EYE” in Vilnius this spring. 2024 is an election year, so this will be a great opportunity for young people to learn more about 9 June. upcoming European Parliament elections. For some participants, who were born after Lithuania became a member of the EU, this will be the first such opportunity to vote,” says Daiva Jakaitė, head of the European Parliament office in Lithuania.
